`bright cyan`The Game
Franchise Basketball, is a basketball league simulator. To the best
of my knowledge, no other basketball game similar to this has been
released. This is the first of it's kind. Franchise Basketball is
not a basketball action game. Each day you do not call up, play
your game and leave. Here, you are not the basketball player, but
rather, the Franchise owner and general manager. If you are looking
for up and down basketball action, I suggest a console or PC game
not an on-line offering. The action and graphics are much better
there.
In Franchise Basketball you draft, manage, and edit your team. The
team plays games at night, and you are notified of the results. You
do not have a play to play effect, only a game to game one. Meaning
once your team takes the floor, they play without your intervention.
After the game, the next day, you can change aspects of your roster
and effect the play for the next day.
First you give your team a city, nickname, and home arena name.
Next you draft your team (see the Draft section of help for further
information in this area). Then you sit back and start managing
your team.
The game has been broken down into two basic segments. The player
segment, where you train, trade, release and sign players, and the
front office segment, where all of the financial events happen.
`bright cyan`The Player Segment
Here you can do several things with your players (see Edit Players
help for more detail). Most options will of course cost money.
So you want to have plenty of it to improve your team. How do you
get money? That leads us to the front office.
`bright cyan`The Front Office
The front office of every Basketball Team is responsible for gener-
ating revenue (for the owners pocket, and the teams improvement).
Here is no different. You begin with a small Blacktop Court to play
on, the maximum capacity is 250. You may, with enough money up-
grade the facility. This increases the seating capacity and revenue.
In addition you can sponsor a promotional give away, schedule
advertising, upgrade concession stands and license merchandise to
increase the publics knowledge of the team, attendance and money.
That money may be used to improve nearly all aspects, including
the players skills and the teams revenue generating items. Remember,
there are certain unseen costs in running a franchise (electricity,
salaries, etc). For simplicity, the players salaries are included
in this number. So you won't receive an increase of money = TICKET
PRICE * ATTENDANCE, it will be less.
`bright cyan`Wins and Losses
Your record affects attendance, and thus cash. The better
the team, the more people want to see them. There is definitely a
mix between factors to be truly successful.
`bright cyan`The Season
Each day you should have more money in the coffers to use, since
games are typically played once a night.
`bright cyan`Winning
The object of the game is to be the Franchise Basketball Champion
for the season (that's the object of nearly all sports). However,
to attain that goal, you as the Franchise owner must make decisions
on how best to achieve that.
`bright cyan`Perpetual Season
An extra feature in the Registered Version is the Perpetual Season.
The Perpetual Season throws a different slant on the "object" of the
game. Yes, the goal is still to win the FBB Championship, but
Perpetual Season games reset the league at the end of each season.
All coaches retain their teams, players get a year older, some older
players may retire, and younger ones improve naturally. In addition,
teams will all revert back to a Gym stadium, and their funds will
diminish (costs of off season maintenance). This option, however,
allows lesser teams to build for the future, rather than focusing
on the present.
